I realise that I may be preaching to many with vast DIY experience. However, safety is always paramount and these tips will help you make better shakuhachi.
- Keep workplace as uncluttered as possible. This is especially true for electrical equipment and wires. This will lead to less mistakes.
- Try not to work when you are tried.
- Take regular breaks and check your progress.
- Use good light and pack up when your eyes get tried.
- Get safety equipment and use them: gloves, goggles, dust masks and ear protection.
- Don't use tools for a purpose other than what they were designed for.
- Keep knifes and other tools in good repair and throw out worn or broken tools.
- Keep good ventilation, especially when using urushi or during sanding.
- Keep all tools and materials out of reach of little prying hands!
